Quintessential Childhood…

April 30, 2009

What could be more perfect than one good friend, two soft ponies, and an early spring? After a morning of trimming hooves and brushing out the winter’s undercoat, two serene wanderers enjoyed their first ride of the season.

First Ride of Spring

Spring Stroll

Only 36 hours until May Day! The guests have begun to arrive. This will be our first with leaves already sprung on the trees. The land is green and bursting with life, the flowers are abundant, and the eves bring a chorus of peepers.

Getting Ready for May Day!

Last Year's Maypole

Last Year's Maypole- Weathered and Worn

The white old winter has stripped the color from last year’s ribbons. Today the May Day fairies arrived, and worked for long hours by the hot stove to prepare for this season’s festivities…

On May Day eve, we will pull the old ribbons down. Before the sun awakens on May Day morn, the new ribbons make their appearance on the pole!

And yes, spring has arrived at last on BelleWeather Farm. The land is a miracle of blues and lavenders, punctuated with yellow surprises. Our world feels like an Elsa Beskow book!

Spring Sing and Maple Merrymaking!

Fiddle Switch Meltdown!

Fiddle Switch Meltdown!

A visit from Cara made our impromptu event even more delightful, but what could go wrong with an overabundance of maple sugar, maple popcorn, maple peanuts, and peanutbutter maple cookies! We sang all the good songs, and played all the good tunes, heard from e.e. cummings, and enjoyed the timeless tales of maple sugaring from Little House in the Big Woods by Laura Ingalls Wilder.

Melts on Your Tongue...

An Even Tastier Meltdown...

Sadly, sugar season is over. The taps get pulled today… but it’s time for early seeds to go into the earth. The snowdrops are at full bloom, and the first daffodil has graced our garden. Spring is really here!
